Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve [ Related Itinerary ]

Located in the northern part of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, covering an area of 67 square kilometers, with the highest peak of 1,262 meters, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve is one of the popular tourist destination in Zhangjiajie.

Known as "the Monarch of the Peak Forest", Tianzi Mountain provides stunning views of peaks. Standing on the top of the mountain, visitors can have a panorama of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Decorated with waterfalls, natural bridges and cave formations, the mountain shows different beautiful scenes in different seasons. In the scenic area there are four wonders that every visitor should not miss: the Sea of Clouds, Rays of Sunshine, the Radiance of the Moonlight and the Winter Snow. The cloud billows are ever changing all the time; morning and evening sun glows vast sky; moon shines in the night; winter snow falls enchanting the scenery. All of them create a tranquil and unique atmosphere.

About the name of Tianzi Mountain, there is a legend. It is said that 600 years ago, Xiang Dakun, the leader of the Tujia ethnic group fighting off imperial forces as his comrades were slain in droves all around him. Defeated until to the top of the mountain, Xiang Dakun plummeting to his death at last. His nickname Tianzi was passed on to the mountain when he fell down. In honor of his brave spirit, the locals named the mountain Tianzi.

Tianzi Mountain has five main scenic area and over ten scenic spots including more than 80 natural platforms. Highlights worth a visit include Helong Park, West Sea Stone Forests, Divine shrine and Immortal Bridge. During the tour to Tianzi Mountain, take a cable car to see these charming peaks will be an excellent experience. With the length of 2,084 meters, the aerial tramway provide 692 meters' difference in elevation. The minimum running time is 6 minutes and 22 seconds for a single trip. During this short journey, visitors can take in the wonderful scenery of the Tianzi Mountain.

On a clear day, standing on the top of Tianzi Montain, visitors will be able to see most of Zhangjiajie's peaks converging in the horizon on all sides by an endless wave of stone sentinels.
