Shaanxi History Museum was built in 1983 and opened to the public in June of 1991. Located in the northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, covering an area of 65,000 square meters, it is the first modern national museum. Now 370,000 exhibits in the museum vividly show the history of over a million years from prehistoric times (1,150,000 years ago - 21st Century BC) to about 1840 AD. The collection includes bronze ware from the Western Zhou Dynasty, 3,000 years ago, terracotta figures, gold and silver ware and murals discovered in Tang tombs.

The architecture style of Shaanxi History Museum is Tang Dynasty style with white walls, dark grey tiles, pyramidal roofs and follow the theme of a "hall in center, storied buildings in corners". The theme of "Ancient Civilization of Shaanxi" became the permanent exhibition in this museum since the March of 2008 and aims to tell people the history and development of the province and its contribution to Chinese civilization as well.

Main Cultural Objects Displayed in Shaanxi History Museum
Bronze Wares: There are move than 3900 pieces of bronze wares with different types and purpose including sacrificial vessels, weapons, musical instruments, decorations, articles for daily use, etc. all of which has the history of over thousand years.

Terracotta Figurines: These collections include statues of officials, servants, gods, beasts, horses, camels, etc., which were respectively made from Oin Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. The materials of these collections are unvarnished pottery, color-decorated pottery, glazed pottery and three-color glazed pottery.

Murals of Tang Mausoleums: More than 400 murals from 25 mausoleums of Tang Dynasty were displayed in a modern exhibition hall. Since all these 25 mausoleums belong to the royal family or the ministers, so the murals are gorgeousness and show the strong atmosphere of the imperial power.

Besides, the Bronze Mirror of Han and Tang Dynasties, Gold, Silver and Jade Wares, the Scripts and Paintings, Scriptures, Fabrics, Carpentry, Lacquerwares, Iron Wares, Stone Implements, Seals are also attracts visitors.
