Mt. Huashan [ Related Itinerary ]

Mt. Huashan, enjoying a high prestige and a long history, is one of the famous Five Great Mountains in China. 120 kilometers east of Xian city proper, it boasts as the first batch of national key scenic spots and one of the top ten tourist destinations in Chin. With the most spectacular mountain scenery, in 2010, it was rated as the AAAAA National Scenic Spot by the National Tourism Administration.

Overview about Mt. Huashan
Mt. Huashan has long been well known for its breathtaking crags, steep paths and beautiful scenery. It also boasts as the most precipitous mountain in the world. Mt. Huashan is nothing like the other Chinese mountains because it is a huge complete granite. Its history can be dated back to 120 million years ago. It is an extremely dangerous place for mountain climbing and it is also known as one of the Five Sacred Taoist Mountains in China. Consists of five main peaks, the tallest peak is the South Peak standing 2160 meters above the sea level. It is called "Wild Goose Peak" and looking down at the mountain from this peak, visitors can have a panoramic view of the branch of the Yellow River and vast plain.

Most Dangerous Hiking Trails
The Sky Plank Path: The "sky plank path" at the south gate boasts as the most dangerous trail on Mt. Huashan. The plank path is made up of three sections - all very dangerous to hike through.

Canglong Mountain: The path on the mountain is only 2 feet wide, flanked by with steep cliffs. The mountain boasts an elevation difference about 500 meters, and slope of more than 45 degrees.

Mt. Huashan Valley Hiking Trail: It is the path leading to the top of the Mt. Huashan. The path connects all of the attractions on Mt. Huashan. Climbing up the mountain is very difficult but that is part of the fun. The experience is thrilling while taking in views along the way. This trail is very popular with visitors as the classic mountaineering route.

Besides, the sunrise from the top of Huashan is excellent. It is a fairly coveted experience you should not miss. If you have time for only one excursion outside of Xian, Mt. Huashan should definitely be the first choice.
