Nanshan Temple [ Related Itinerary ]

Located 40 kilometers from Sanya City, the Nanshan Temple is a holy land of Buddhism and one of the most famous tourist destinations among visitors during Sanya tour. Nestling at the foot of Nanshan Mountain, covering an area of 266,667 square meters, this temple is the biggest Buddhist preaching site since the foundation of the People's Republic of China.

Completed in 1998, Nanshan Temple is famous for its several replicas architectures of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907). Going through the Mountain Gate, visitors will find two figures of Buddha standing there as guards. Seven Buddhist figures are enshrined in the Doushuai Hall. The Maitreya Buddha is in the middle of the Hall with two Bodhisattvas on each side. Four Heavenly Kings stand around these three Buddhist statues. Step into the hall, visitors will feel the solemn atmosphere.

Highlights to See in Nanshan Temple
The Dharma-Door of Nonduality: It is said that in Nanshan Temple there totally has 84,000 Buddhist gates to get approach to Buddhism. All all of them this one is the highest level. Getting through this gate is believed to correspond to the holy land of Buddhism. Different from most structures in the temple, it is not follow the architectural style of Tang Dynasty but expressed the style of Southern and Northern Dynasty (420 - 589).

Gold and Jade Satue of Avalokitesvara: This is a 3.8 meters high statue of Avalokitesvara enshrined in a resplendent hall. From the name of the Avalokitesvara, visitors may know the statue is very precious. It is made of more than 100 kg gold, more than 120 g South African diamond and more than 1000 g rubies, sapphires, emeralds, pearls, jades. It was elected as the biggest Buddha statue made of gold and gems in the world in 1998 and entered the Guinness World Records of 1999.

On-sea Avalokitesvara Statue: This is the symbol building of Nanshan Temple. Started to be built in 1999, this huge statue on the sea cost 6 years to finish. It is a three-sided Avalokitesvara standing on a big lotus throne with the height of 108 meters. Taking advantage of high-tech methods, the night scenery here around the statue is also very charming.

Nanshan Temple is a comparatively new temple in China. Combining Buddhist culture, garden architectures and recreational facilities with the spirit of peace, tranquility and harmony, it has becomes more and more popular in recent years.
