Located at the southern coastal area, Zhan Bridge is an extension of the road into the sea which is also known as Qianhai Zhan Bridge, Nanhai Zhan Bridge and Grand Pier. It is the icon of Qingdao City and gains a high reputation among visitors: "if you have not visited to the Zhan Bridge, you can not know the real charm of Qingdao City".

Originally built in 1892 with a total length of 200 meters and width of 10 meters, the Zhan Bridge was the earliest military pier in Qingdao City. In 1901 the bridge was expanded to 350 meters long, paved with railway rail. Around 1905, Zhan Bridge served as an exclusive port for piloting ships into Qingdao harbor. After the establishment of People's Republic of China, modern deep water port was built in Qingdao, therefore the Zhan Bridge was developed to be a tourist destination. Nowadays, the Zhan Bridge is 440 meters long and 10 meters wide with giant granite supports, which becomes a famous scenic spot. At the south end of the bridge there stands a Chinese style octagon pavilion called Huilan Pavilion.

Built up on the south end of Zhan Bridge, the three Chinese characters Hui Lan Ge once written on the plaque was by Shen Honglie (the former mayor of Qingdao city). However during the war of invading China, the plaque was robbed by Japan and exhibited in the army museum in Tokyo. The Chinese characters on the new plaque now were written by the famous calligrapher - Shutong. Huilan Pavilion is a two-storey pavilion. With the shape of octagonal, the roof of it is covered by colorful glazed tile. There are 24 red-painted pillars support the pavilion. In the middle of the pavilion, there has 34 spiral ladders that help people reach upstairs to enjoy a better sightseeing. Go upstairs, standing on the second floor of Huilan Pavilion, visitors will see the blue sea stretches on all sides. In 1936, the Huilan Pavilion located in Zhan Bridge was chose as the best one among ten famous sceneries in Qingdao City. In recent years, there often holds some small art exhibitions.

As the symbol attraction of Qingdao, with charming scenery, it is the place really worth a visit.
