Tiger Leaping Gorge is located about 100 kilometers northwest of Lijiang Ancient Town and is known as the deepest gorge in China. With steep cliffs and the rapids, here is one of the favorite places for shutterbug in China. Come to Tiger Leaping Gorge, bring your camera, wear skidproof shoes and just prepare for be astonished.

Winding 25 kilometers, the Tiger Leaping Gorge can be divided into 3 sections: the upper, the middle and the lower sections. The first section is 9 kilometers away from Tiger Leaping Township which is the narrowest section in the whole gorge. It is the mouth of the Jingsha River. In the middle of the river's mouth there is a large rock which make the narrowest section only 30 meters wide. 5 kilometers from the upper section is the middle section. Here the thunderous rushing waters slam into sharp, large rocks and crash down into the river forming swirling whirlpools. The third section is steeper and much more dangerous. River twists and turns here, creating high waves by colliding the mountainsides. Here is the best place to take breathtaking photos.

Tiger Leaping Gorge is also a nice place for hiking. In the gorge there offers two paths: the low road and the high road. The low road is new and wide enough for tour buses pass through. While the high road is much challengable, but it does have sublime views of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Hiking on the high road, visitors could also see the famous Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to the east. If you want to go hiking in the gorge, here kindly remind you something. The temperature is high in the day time in valley and will cost you much energy, so you'd better bring some high calorie food with you to replenish energy such as the chocolate. Every year from June to September is the rainy season in the gorge. So it is highly recommended you to avoid this period because the heavy rain may cause the debris flow and mountain rock fall.
