Jade Dragon Snow Mountain located 15 kilometers south of Lijiang city gains the high fame as the southernmost snow mountain in Northern Hemisphere. Consisting of 13 peaks, for a distant view, this snow-covered and fog-enlaced mountain just looks like a silver dragon lying in the clouds.

According to the records of geologists, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain area was the ocean 400 million years ago. Due to the uprising of the lithosphere, during the last 600 thousand years, different kind of landscapes appeared including the snow mountain. As located in near Lijiang city, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is regarded as a holy mountain by the Naxi people since ancient time. And according to the legend of Naxi people, the snow-covered mountain is the embodiment of Sanduo - the god of Naxi minority.

The must-see scenic spots in the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain include Glacier Park, Ganhaizi Meadow, Spruce Meadow, Yak Meadow, Blue Moon Valley and White River. Glacier Park is located on the Shanzidou Peak and seen from the foot of the peak it looks just like a hanging waterfall from the heaven. Ganhaizi is a natural pasture located 2900 meters above sea level, measuring 4 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide. Spruce Meadow located on the eastern hillside of the mountain is 3240 meters above sea level, which is regarded as the holy land of Naxi people. Yak Meadow is the best place to see all the 13 peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Between Ganhaizi Meadow and Spruce Meadow there lies a deep valley called Blue Moon Valley. The White River runs on the bottom of valley and cascade into several calcified pools.

Besides 13 peaks and deep valleys, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is also home for rare animals and wild plants. One fourth of all plant species in China can be found here including 20 primeval forest of 400 types of trees which are protected by the state. Also here lives 30 kinds of endangered animals. According to the altitude, the plants and the animals are different, so there create different kinds of views for visitors.

The landscapes in Jade Dragon Snow Mountain vary in different altitude and different seasons, but no doubt that every sight will bring you a surprise and memorable scene. Now here becomes a famous scenic spot for sightseeing, mountaineering and skiing in Yunnan Province.
