History of Basha Village
Baisha Village used to be a settlement of Naxi People and the birthplace of local Mu Family Governors. First built in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), the village became prosperous during the following dynasties of Song (960 - 1279) and Yuan (1271 - 1368). During the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), here became the religion center of Lijiang and the government built many temples in the old town.

Modern Baisha Village
Today, wandering along the road in the village, visitors can enjoy the slow lifestyle of the local Naxi People. If you like, you could freely step into various courtyards to see the original buildings and the beautiful decorations such as the man-made tie-dye artwork hanging in the sun. A few art stores and hostels run by local people are scattered around the village. And if you are interested in the local artwork, there is a good place for you to visiting - Local Embroidery School.

Murals are the symbol of Baisha Village, most of which are preserved in Dabaoji Palace, a temple built in 1582. With religions as the main themes, totally there are 12 pieces of murals with 167 different figures painted on the wall and each painting includes at least 100 portraits. Use religions as the main theme do not mean that all the portraits are Buddhas, there are also ordinary people such as bureaucrats, farmers, citizens and even criminals. The originality and figures within the murals reflect the different religious cultures and artistic forms of Buddhism, Lamaism, Taoism and local Naxi Dongba religion. Seeing is believing, the murals in Baisha Village are marvelous really worth visiting.
