Dianchi Lake Scenic Area is located 20 kilometers in the southwest part of Kunming City. It is one of the top tourist spots and best summer resort in Kunming since ancient times. Covering an area of more than 300 square kilometers, with the shoreline of about 200 kilometers long, Dianchi Lake is the biggest lake in Yunnan province and the 6th biggest freshwater lake in China.

39 kilometers long and 13.5 kilometers wide, for a panorama view, the shape of Dianchi Lake looks like a crescent moon. There are more than 20 rivers flow into Dianchi Lake from the east, north and south part, and the water flows out into the Jinsha Jiang from the west part. Four surrounding hills make here into a fairy tale world and the charming lake changes with the time, lights and cloudy changing. Here has stunning natural scenery and some great parks, pavilions, museums along the lakeshore including Yunnan Ethnic Villages, Grand View Park, White Fish Park, Haigeng Bank, Kwan-yin Hill, Western Hills Forest Park, and some temples and pagodas.

Yunnan Ethnic Villages provide visitors a good shortcut to understand the customs of the ethnic groups in Yunnan. Grand View Park is famous for the longest couplets in China on the Grand View Pavilion. White Fish Park on the west bank of Dianchi Lake got the name because of a small hill which looks like a white fish opening its mouth to Dianchi Lake. Haigeng Bank about 4 kilometers long with the width from 40 meters to 300 meters just looks like a floating jade beltalong Dianchi Lake. Kwan-yin Hill, 2,040 meters above the sea level, is bordered by the vast lake and the lofty peaks on this hill seem to thrust themselves straight towards the sky. To better visit the area of Dianchi Lake, visitors can firstly go to the West Hill Forest Park for a visit, and then take the cable car from Longmen to Dianchi lake (price for the cable car is 30 RMB).

Dianchi Lake, the largest lake of Kunming, enchants people with its cyan water, peaceful environment and different kinds of landscapes. It is really an ideal place for visitors who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life and get close to nature.
