Thousand Buddha Mountain [ Related Itinerary ]

Located about 2.5 kilometers south of Jinan City, the Thousand Buddha Mountain is regarded as one of the three symbols of Jinan together with Baotu Spring and Daming Lake. With the height of 281 meters, the Thousand Buddha Mountain becomes one of the must-visit destination during the tour in Jinan.

The Thousand Buddha Mountain was originally described as a farming wasteland and was named as "Li Mountain" before the Zhou Dynasty. During the Sui Dynasty, the emperors ordered to engrave the statues of Buddhas onto the rock and to build the Thousand Buddha Temple. Therefore the mountain changed the name of Thousand Buddha Mountain. During the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, the temple was rebuilt and development and then was regarded as 'Candle and Incense Paradise' by the locals.

Many scenic spots sitting on the Thousand Buddha Mountain deserve a visit, among which the most famous one is the Thousand Buddha Temple. The main halls in the temple are the Daxiong Baodian, Kwan-yin Hall, the Laughing Buddha Hall and Duihua Kiosk. To the east of the Thousand Buddha Temple stands the Lishan Courtyard consists of the Shun Temple, the Luban Temple, the Wenchang Pavilion and the Yilan Kiosk. Here is the place that visitors can see Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism harmonize with each other in one courtyard. On the south side of the Thousand Buddha Mountain, there are four caves abreast from west to east, namely Longquan Cave, Jile Cave, Qianlou Cave and lvzu Cave. More than 130 statures of Buddha carved during the Sui Dynasty are well-preserved.

Thousand Buddha Mountain enjoys large scale of green coverage with grass, flowers and old aged pine and cypress. For a distant view, the whole mountain looks like wearing a huge green carpet. Although only 280 meters high, it does not have a impressive height, nor does it consists of various weird peaks or strange valleys, the picturesque natural scenery, the tranquil atmosphere, the ancient buildings with long history, as well as the convenient location attract thousands of visitors to come every year. The development of this scenic area has not only added to the rich history of this mountain but has also made this an attractive tourist destination for visitors to Jinan.
