Jinan is widely known as "the hometown of springs" and among so many springs, the Baotu Spring is the most outstanding one. Baotu Spring Park located in the city center is a national AAAA scenic spot and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jinan City.

Baotu Spring Park was originally built in 1956 and has been extended to 158 mu later. The most famous Baotu Spring, known as the best of the 72 springs in Jinan is located in the centre of the park. According to the historical records,  the history of this spring can be dated back to the Shang Dynasty (16th - 11th BC), 3,543 years ago.

The pool in Baotu Spring Park is rectangular in shape, about 30 meters from west to east and about 18 meters from south to north. Water pours out from the underground limestone cave all the time throughout the whole year with the maximum of 240,000 cubic meters per day. When spurts out, the spring creates thunderous sounds and just looks like three piles of snow. The spring retains its temperature at 18 degree Celsius all year round, so even during the winter period, visitors could still see the active spring. And in cold winter, water mist rises and floats over the pool adding more mysterious atmosphere to the whole park. The spring water has another important usage - tea making. The spring water is sweet, limpid in color, rich in aroma and good in taste. To the east of the spring is the famous Wangheting Teahouse, having a cup of tea in hand, sitting in the pavilion and enjoy the charming scenery around, what a leisure feeling.

Besides the most famous Baotu Spring, inside the park there are many more scenic spots worth a visit with rich sense of history and story such as the Luoyuan Hall, the Yaoying Temple, the Crane Pavilion, the Pavilion of the Billowing Wind, the Ling Qingzao Memorial Hall, the Deep Blue Garden, the 'Ten Thousand' Bamboo Forest, the White Snow Building, etc.

Many of China's most famous and noted scholars and officials have visited this celebrated park and spring. Also the activities such as the Lantern Festival and Chrysanthemum Show attract large numbers of visitors every year.
