Xidi Village [ Related Itinerary ]

Located in Yixian County of Anhui Province, 40 kilometers away from the Yellow Mountain, Xidi Village is an ancient village with charming scenery and tranquil atmosphere. It was listed as the World Cultural Heritage Site together with Hongcun Village, another famous ancient village in Yixian County on November 30th of 2000.

The history of Xidi Village can be dated back to the 11th Century, more than 900 years ago. Originally built during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), splendors from the 14th Century to 19th Century, the village gains a high fame of the 'Museum of Ming and Qing Dynasty Local Residence'. Totally there are 124 ancient residences and three ancestral halls settled in the village including an archway, Linyun Pavilion, Eastern and Western Gardens, Ruiyu Courtyard, Taoli Garden, Da Fu Grand House and Lvfu Hall. So wandering in the village, visitors will get the unique feeling of back to the ancient China.

With the history of more than 900 years, Xidi Village is well known for its unique and elegant wooden houses. All the house here are well-designed and well-preserved with prettified walls preventing rain infiltration, black tiles expressing its old history, decorative gate towers showing the flavor of the architecture style at that time. Besides the wooden houses, the carvings of the Ming and Qing Dynasty is another characteristic of the old village. Stone carvings, bricks carvings and wooden carvings are the three carving styles and the most renowned. While visiting Xidi Village, tourists can appreciate these exquisite carvings on door frames, lattice walls, columns and beams in the halls. The birds, flowers, grass and figures are vividly showing the superb skill of ancient craftsmen in China. Entering Xidi Village, you will find the obvious road patterns - main road just runs in east-west direction and flanked by two parallel streets. Go on walking, numerous narrow alleys will lead you into a mysterious world.

Because of the best-preserved and old-aged style architectures, traditional and delicate carvings and the rich history, the traditional Chinese style may not be found in other place. Xidi Village is a treasure house of Chinese ancient folk buildings that really worth a visit.
