Sanjiang Drum Tower [ Related Itinerary ]

Sanjiang Drum Tower is located in the Sanjiang Dong Autonomous region and it was built by the local famous Dong folk artisan Yang Siyu in 2002, which hailed as "the first Dong drum tower in the world". Now the architecture has become a famous sight in Guilin and a popular tourist destination too.

Built with a total of 60 pillars to the ground, Sanjiang Drum Tower is 42.6 meters high, covering an area of 600 square meters. Drum tower consists of 27 layers and the roof and eaves are in a Pyramid shaped, very dignified and stable. The body of the tower is made up of wood without using any nail but marvelously keeps solid. Each floor is covered with eaves, exquisite carvings and paintings on the bright cornice. The building is famous for the four big fir columns (with a history of more than 100 years) with a diameter of more than 70 cm, which it is very rare in the drum tower architectural history. Standing on the top floor of the tower, visitors could have a panoramic view of Sanjiang. On the foundation support of the tower, the exquisite carvings reflects the Dong's daily life.

The shape of Sanjiang Drum Tower is looked like a pagoda. The magnificent and elaborate structure with gray color represents Dong minority's profound culture, both in architectural field and intelligence. Sanjiang Drum Tower is the highest tower, known as the world's top tower and China's national 4A scenic spot. Here filled with plenty attractions such as Sanjiang Dong Feng Yuqiao, China Sanjiang City, Stone City, Fulu Temple. As the symbol of the masculine beauty and key part of the Dong traditional culture inheritance, the tower has an important place in the village, used for fete, meeting, gathering, welcoming, celebration, dance and entertainment. As a project of Sanjiang 50 years founding anniversary, it is a site integrating culture, appreciation and tourism into one.
