History of Daxu Ancient Town
Originally built in the early Northern Song Dynasty (960AD–1126AD), Daxu Ancient Town has the history of over 1000 years. With such a long history, there are a lot of historical sightseeing left such as the Gaozu Temple, the Hanhuang Temple, the assembly halls and the two-kilometer long bluestone street lined with well preserved traditional structures. Among them the most famous ones are the Gaozu Temple and Hanhuang Temple which was built in Qing Dynasty. Meanwhile, Daxu Ancient Town was also one of the four major harbors bordering Li River, which make it famous in southern China.

Highlights to See in Daxu Ancient Town
While visiting the ancient town there are some destinations that you should not miss: the Cobbled Street, the Longevity Bridge, ancient wooden architectures and the Seven Stars Tombs.

The Cobbled Street stretches through the town is 2.5 kilometers long and 2 meters wide. The whole street is filled with traditional courtyards. While strolling along the street, you may find some small kids are sitting around the old man and listening to him telling the stories. Built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Longevity Bridge is a stone arch bridge with beautifully designed. Totally there were 13 docks built during Ming Dynasty and 5 of which are still in use today. The ancient wooden architectures are most standing along the river and all of them have colorfully decorated eaves, elegantly carved doors and windows. Best preserved until today, most of them are served as the living places of the locals. The Seven Stars Tombs were built in the form of the Big Dipper constellation, which is the first one in China. According to the brightness of the stars, there built different sizes tombs.

Besides historical sightseeing to visit, the ancient town is also very popular with many films and TV serials since many scenes of the famous film 'Sanjie Liu' were shot here. Meanwhile, the local food, customs and traditional culture are also deserve exploring.
