Yuexiu Park [ Related Itinerary ]

Located in the Jiefang Road, covering an area of 860,000 square meters, Yuexiu Park is the largest park in central Guangzhou. Built in 1952, consists of three artificial lakes and seven hills of Yuexiu Mountain, the park got the name of Yuexiu Park. Nowadays, the park is nominated as the scenic park of Guangzhou and becomes one of the must-sees during Guangzhou tour.

Yuexiu Park is a perfect combination of cultural relics and ecological tourism. Among many spots in the park, the most popular ones that must-visit are the Five Rams Sculpture, the Zhenhai Tower and the site of the Ming Dynasty City Wall.

The Five Ram Sculpture is the representative structure in Yuexiu Park and also becomes the emblem of Guangzhou. There is a legend about the sculpture said that over 2,000 years ago, people living in the city usually suffered from famine no matter how hard they worked. One day five immortals in five-color garments came to the city. They were riding on five rams and playing the legendary music all the way. All the five rams held sheaves of rice in their mouths. When passing the city, the immortals left the sheaves of rice for the local people and gave blessings to the city. Then the five rams turned into stones and the city became rich.

Zhenhai Tower in Yuexiu Park is a five-layer pagoda build during the Ming Dynasty. With the height of 28 meters and the width of 31 meters, this tower is the most well preserved ancient tower in Guangzhou City. The first two floors of the tower were made of red sand stone, while from the third floor, it used of normal rock but painted in red. Red walls with green tiles, the color is also the characteristic and the symbol of the building.

The Ming Dynasty City Wall is another spotlight in the park. The wall can be divided into three parts: the east, the middle and the west. However most of it was destroyed only the part near Zhenhai Tower was well preserved. It is said that looking at this wall visitors could get a kind of feeling between heaven and earth.
