Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall [ Related Itinerary ]

Located on the southern slope of Yuexiu Hill, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built in memory of Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of democratic revolution in China, also known as the father of Republic of China. Started in 1929 and finished in 1931, Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is really a magnificent building and a city highlight really worth a visit.

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a palatial architecture complex with unique design and delicate appearance. For a vertical view, the complex looks like a Chinese character "中", while for a horizontal view it looks like another Chinese character "土". As an important place for conferences and performances, here can hold thousands of people with sound equipment. The decorations inside show the typical Chinese architecture style: the roof of the main hall is made of sapphire blue glazed tiles and on the eaves there carved with exquisite paintings and patterns. The hall is also featured with white and yellow brick walls, dado of blue stones, red columns, terrazzo windows, the granite base of Buddhist-style building.

The main building are built along the central axis and the whole complex can be divided into three parts. The front one is a three-layer building with three pavilions on the top. On each pavilion there hangs a big chamilia bracelet which symbolize the Nationalism, Democracy and People's livelihood - the New Three People's Principles initiated by Sun Yat-sen. In the center part there hangs a gold-gilded inscription of Sun Yat-sen that reads "Tian Xia Wei Gong". In front of the memorial hall sits a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen which was set up in 1956. Besides there are a lot of pictures and letters of Sun Yat-sen on display in the memorial hall so visitors can have a better understanding about the revolution history of Sun Yat-sen through exhibits.

To have a panoramic view of the memorial hall, the best way is to step on the monument by a steel spiral staircase. Besides the displays of Sun Yat-sen, in the memorial hall visitors could also see the oldest ceiba in Guangzhou and the two biggest white jade orchid trees which witness the great changes of Guangzhou City.
