Dazu Rock Carvings sit at the Dazu County of Chongqing is renowned as a large rock carvings group. During 800 years, the carvings were well-protected and the various statues in different sizes also are best preserved.

Dazu carving was created in the late of Tang Dynasty, thrived in Song Dynasty, focuses on the Buddhist statue, Confucianist statue and Taoist statue coexist, which is the outstanding work of grotto arts in later period. The Baodingshan, Beishan, Nanshan, Shimenshan and Shizhuanshan grottoes are the symbols of the Dazu Rock Carvings with a certain size, most valuable and elegant carvings. It is hard to imagine the craftsmen and ancestors have such skillful technology and attainments.

Baodingshan Carvings
The most famous statue in Baodingshan Mountain is the Thousand-Hand Kwan-yin Statue, which is the real Kwan-yin with thousand-hand. These hands seem like the peacock spreads its tail skillfully distributed in the cliffstone which covers an area of 88 square meters, and all hands are different, with no one identical. Come to Baodingshan Mountain, never miss the pinnacle of Dazu Rock Carving in Song Dynasty - Yuanjue Cave. In the entrance of the cave, there is a doughty stone lion, and various statues in cave were carved subtly, their clothes seem like the silk and the bases seem like the woodcarvings.

Beishan Carvings
The statues in Beishan Mountain are all famous for the meticulously carved in high technology and the elegant figures in the world, is rated to be the Museum for Kwan-yin Statues in China. Beishan Carving is not the most north carving in Dazu County, so careful when you find the spot. The works here are closer to life, reveal the aesthetic taste in Song Dynasty. Statues are impressed by the bright characteristics, beautiful posture, shapely proportion and the colorful dresses. 

Nashan, Shizhuanshan and Shimenshan Carvings
Nanshan Mountain, also known as Guanghuashan Mountain, is located at Longgang Town in Dazu County, has various kinds of statues in Taoism. It is the most concentrated and most complete groups of carvings reflecting the god system in the Taoist statue. 
Shizhuanshan Carving is the typical complex area of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism statues, is rare in grottoes in China. Here, I like the harmonious atmosphere of the Chinese religions in that time. 
Shimenshan Carving is the complex area of statues in Buddhism and Taoism, especially the Taoist statues are most characteristic.
