Sanxingdui Museum [ Related Itinerary ]

Sanxingdui is historic archeological site with lots of precious artifacts which can be dated back to 5000 years ago. It`s regarded as the origin of the civilization of the Yangtze River. Located in Guanghan city, 40 kilometers north of Chengdu city, covering an area of 4,000 square meters, it is an archeological museum shows the profound history and culture of ancient China. Because of the long history and rich collections, the museum has become one of top attractions in Chengdu.

Sanxingdui Museum is near an archaeological site dating back to the Neolithic, Shang and Zhou periods. Due to the large scale and precious excavated objects, it gained a global influence and listed as a National Key Cultural Relics Protected Unit in China. The biggest discovery was the unearthed of two large Shang-period sacrificial pits in 1986. A great number of relics were brought to lights including more than one thousand gold, bronze and jade objects, which shock the entire country at that time. Among all the unearthed objects, the groups of grotesque bronze statues are the most fabulous and attract most attention, such as the 2.62 meters tall standing bronze statue, 1.38 meters wide bronze mask and 3.95 meters high bronze tree. Besides, the six pieces of coppers were listed as national treasures, the gold wares are regarded as the gold scepter and jade wares turned out to be the rare jewels of ancient China. All of these show the high degree of historical, artistic and scientific value.

The finds in Sanxingdui Museum proved that here was the capital of the ancient Shu Kingdom with the history of over 3,000 years. Also, this important archeological discovery changed the people's understanding of ancient Sichuan culture. With so large scale, so strange shapes of relics and so many cultural contents, it indicate that the history of the ancient Shu here once had an incomparable brilliant chapter.
