Jinsha Site Museum [ Related Itinerary ]

Jinsha ruin was discovered in 2001, only 50 kilometers from Sanxingdui. Covering an area of about 38,000 square meters, this site flourished about 1000 BC and share similarities in burial objects with Sanxingdui.

Ivory, jade artifacts, bronze objects, gold objects and carved stone objects were found at the site. Unlike the site at Sanxingdui, Jinsha did not have a city wall. Jinsha culture (1200 BC - 650 BC) was a final phase of Sanxingdui culture and represents a relocation of the political center in the ancient Shu Kingdom. Jinsha Site Museum is built to protect, study and display the archaeological finds in Jinsha Site.

In Jinsha Site, there has "Three Mosts" among its kind in the same period: the world's most concentrated ancient ivory, the most unearthed gold articles and the most unearthed jade artifacts.

The First Most: The unearthed ivories in Jinsha Site contains various different kinds including complete ivories, cut ivories, ivory segments, ivory pieces, ivories bead, etc. After the identification, all the ivories unearthed here are considered to be local Asian elephants'. Besides the ivories objects, there also displays some elephant skulls and molars.

The Second Most: There were more than 200 pieces of gold articles found in Jinsha Site, most of the which are the attachments of other objects as symbols of nobility. The unearthed gold articles include the gold foils, gold films, gold masks, gold belts, box-shaped gold, flared gold, frog-shaped ornaments, fish-shaped ornaments, etc. From the vivid gold objects, visitors could see the superior technology and exceptional artistic imagination of ancient craftsmen.

The Third Most: There are more than 2,000 pieces of jade found in Jinsha Site and all of them belong to the Bronze Age. The jade artifacts contains different kinds including jade axe, jade chisel, jade knife, jade sword, jade spear, jade ring, jade bracelet, etc. Most of the unearthed jade artifacts were used for sacrifice and decoration.

Compared to Terracotta Warriors in Xian, you can easily have close look at these relics. The whole museum are well arranged and displayed with English explanations. It`s good chance to have very interesting glimpse into history and culture of ancient China. When visiting Chengdu, this site is definitely a MUST VISIT.
