Beijing Confucius Temple [ Related Itinerary ]

Located in Guozijian Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing Confucian Temple is the place to sacrifice Confucius in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty. As the birth country of Confucius, the Confucius Temple is a welcomed spots for tourists in Beijing.

Confucius (551B.C. - 479 B.C.), is the founder of Confucianism as well as a great thinker and social philosophy in ancient China. In China and some cities of the world, it is not hard to find Confucius Temples where people hold all kinds of ceremonies to memorize the great man. Beijing Confucius Temple was built in the year of 1302 in Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Even though the temple was rebuilt many times, the structure still kept the Yuan style. From 1982, the Confucius Temple was open to the public. It is the second largest temple built in honor of Confucius, ranking only behind the Temple of Confucius in Shandong Qufu.

Beijing Confucius Temple is a north-south temple covering an area of 22,000 square meters. This temple consists of four courtyards. The architectures in the axle wire include Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Palace, Chongsheng Gate and Chongsheng Ancestral Temple from south to north. Also there are 198 stone tablets inscribed the successful candidates' names, which are the important documents to study Chinese ancient imperial examination system.

Confucius Temple is an imperial ancient architecture which has long history than Forbidden City and concentrates thousand years' cultural essences. In the long history about 700 years, here became the saint place to worship Confucius and Confucianism, broadcast and educate in Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasty. The main buildings in the Temple are covered with yellow glazed tiles which are the highest construction regulations in feudal society.

It is a tasteful matter to step between the tall ancient cypress trees, stone buildings and a hall with high ceiling, far away from the citizen noise, touching the historic and cultural pulse, feeling the traditional Chinese culture with quiet indifferent heart.
